CUNY Month Recap

Volunteer Corps

November 2012

CUNY Citizenship Now! continued its celebration of CUNY Month with an event at Baruch College on Friday, November 16th.  Citizenship Now! staff and 22 enthusiastic Volunteer Corps members assisted 58 permanent residents apply for citizenship.  There was great news for three lucky participants who were found to already have derived U.S. citizenship through their parents.  We also had another 13 participants who were referred to one of our centers for further consultation.

Three days later, on Monday, November 19th, Citizenship Now! held a smaller event at Queensborough Community College. During this event volunteers and staff helped 16 participants determine their eligibility for United States citizenship.

On Monday, November 26th we headed to the Borough of Manhattan Community College. We were very honored to serve 20 participants.  Their comments about our services were very positive. At every station, conversations were taking place that proved how energetic and enthusiastic the participants were about the volunteers and the free services provided by CUNY Citizenship Now!

The final CUNY Month event was held at Bronx Community College.  We assisted 20 participants determine their eligibility for citizenship. Volunteers used their language skills and had no problem with helping us set up before the event.  We thank all our volunteers for their commitment to help.  In total we assisted 130 participants during CUNY Month.
