The Bronx Community College campus occupies a 50-acre parcel of land on the sites of the historic Henry H.T. Mali and the Gustav Schwab Estates overlooking the Harlem River. There are modern classrooms, lecture halls and laboratories; a student center, athletic fields, tennis courts, a swimming pool, cafeteria, shaded walks and a grassy mall with the Hall of Fame for Great Americans and The Colonnade. The Colonnade provides a panorama across the Harlem River to the Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park and beyond to the Palisades. This 630-foot open-air structure houses the 98 bronze portrait busts of the honorees and was designed by the celebrated architect Stanford White. The complex of three buildings adjoining the Colonnade-Gould Memorial Library, the Hall of Languages and Cornelius Baker Hall of Philosophy were also designed by Stanford White and bear a close conceptual relationship to the Colonnade with the library as the central focus giving the campus a distinctly old world-ivy league flavor.
