The Graduate Center is located across from the Empire State Building. The new campus is housed in the former B. Altman & Company Department Sore Building, built in 1905-1913, which is designated as a New York Landmark building. The building’s attributes include a light-filled three-story library that incorporates historic design elements as well as a dissertation reading room and the Seymour B. Durst Old York Library Reading Room. There are three theaters with seating for 70 to 400 patrons, two of which have adjacent reception areas; and an Art Gallery facing Fifth Avenue in addition to multiple classroom, office, conference, and seminar spaces.
