LaGuardia Community College


LaGuardia Community College is conveniently located in Queens, New York City's fastest growing and most ethnically diverse borough. Students come from more than 160 countries and speak over 120 languages. The campus is just minutes from Manhattan and Brooklyn by subway or bus. LaGuardia offers over 50 associate degree programs, a world-renowned internship program, an Honors Program, a Career and Transfer Center, and a strong support system to ensure student success.

  • Popular majors include liberal arts, business, computers, nursing, and accounting. LaGuardia also offers several specialized programs, such as veterinary technology and occupational therapy assistant, which are available nowhere else in The City University of New York and have very high post-graduation job placement rates.
  • LaGuardia offers flexible academic scheduling, including evening and weekend classes, to accommodate the needs of working adults. Students with young children also benefit from on-campus childcare (for children ages one to four) and an on-campus school (pre-kindergarten through second grade).
  • LaGuardia provides students with a variety of support services that help them succeed academically. These include free tutoring labs, a recently updated Library/Media Center, learning communities, educational counseling, career counseling, personal counseling, academic advisement, academic peer instruction, and student mentors.
  • Entering students who need help developing basic skills can enroll in the pre-freshman "Quick Start" program, intra-session workshops, and non-credit basic skills classes.
  • The College's non-traditional academic calendar allows students the option of earning an associate degree on an accelerated schedule, saving time as well as money.
  • All new students participate in the New Student Seminar, which is designed to help orient them to student life at LaGuardia and teach them how to make effective use of instructional technology.
  • Many students get involved with the College's exciting e-Portfolio project, where they learn to create digital/online resumes that showcase their interests and accomplishments.
  • The College's Honors Program features exchange and transfer programs with Columbia University, Barnard, and Vassar College, as well as study abroad opportunities and an Honors Society.
  • Athletic and recreation facilities include an NCAA regulation-size swimming pool, a Fitness Center, and a sports gymnasium.

 Liberal Arts and Sciences:

This is the choice for students planning to transfer to a senior college to complete a bachelor's degree or for students who would like to explore career and major options before deciding on a specific curriculum. Students planning to obtain a bachelor's degree in such fields as education, communications, fine arts, journalism, social science, etc., should select the Liberal Arts-AA degree. Students interested in transferring into baccalaureate programs in fields such as science, mathematics, and engineering should select Sciences-AS degree. Liberal arts and sciences are offered at every community college in CUNY. Liberal Arts and Sciences Courses include: American Sign Language, Anthropology, Art, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Chinese, Creative Writing, Dance, Economics, Education, Engineering, English, Environmental Science, Film, Fine Arts, French, Greek, Hebrew, History, Italian, Journalism, Mathematics, Media Arts, Music, Natural Science, Philosophy, Photography, Physical Science, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Social Science (Interdisciplinary), Sociology, Spanish, Speech Communication and Theater.
