Direct Care Counselor

The Borough of Manhattan Community College will offer a Direct Care Counseling (DCC) CareerPATH program. This full-time training program, offered Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm, prepares students to work in the mental health field dealing with individuals with Developmental Disabilities. Training includes Approved Medication Administration & Personnel, Strategic Crisis Intervention and Prevention and CPR/First Aid. Upon completion of DCC training, students will earn 3 college credits towards an AAS degree in Human Services at BMCC.

Medical office Assistant

Queensborough Community College is offering three CareerPATH Medical Office Assistant tracks including Occupational Training, a Certificate Program and an Associate Degree Program. These interdisciplinary, business and clinical programs prepare graduates for entry- to mid-level, jobs in a variety of healthcare settings. Please note: specific job levels are a function of this training plus work experience and education backgrounds.

Prior to officially enrolling in the CareerPATH program at Queensborough Community College, you must attend an info-session.

Emergency Medical Technician

Laguardia Community College EMT Program

LaGuardia Community College is offering a five month EMT training program for adult learners. This program combines College and Workplace Readiness with EMT training. Unemployed individuals who exhibit a potential for college success will be assisted in achieving their EMT Basic certification, EMT employment and provided with additional academic and career guidance. Participants will have access to a College Preparatory teacher, a tutor to assist with review and remediation, and a case manager to assist participants with their employment needs. Participants will receive hands on practice of EMT skills and two clinical rotations on a 911 ambulance. This is a full-time program from 9am-5pm, Monday - Friday.

Borough of Manhattan Community College EMT Program

The Borough of Manhattan Community College is offering an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) CareerPATH program. BMCC offers both day and evening classes which will help students learn the fundamentals of emergency medical care and prepares students to become entry-level EMTs eligible to sit for the New York State and National EMT Certification. Upon completion of EMT training students will earn 4 college credits towards an AAS degree in Paramedics at BMCC.

Health IT professional

Hostos Community College HIT Professional Program

This program will train candidates who meet the eligibility requirements to join the healthcare workforce as "Health Information Technology Professionals". The Technical/Software Support Staff program will focus on networking and health information exchange, vendor-specific systems, introduction to information and computer science, working with health IT systems, installation and maintenance of health IT systems and configuration of electronic health records. Participants who successfully pass the HIT Pro exam at the end of the training will be in a high-demand position for area hospitals.

Community Health Workers are public health professionals who help bridge gaps between different populations and healthcare or social service systems by providing outreach, basic health education, referrals and follow-up service, case management, advocacy and home visiting services

Laguardia Community College CHW Program

The LaGuardia Community College CHW Program is designed to provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of a Community Health Worker (CHW) and covers the CHW core competencies recommended by the National Community Health Worker Advisor Study. The program includes the CHW training, a 100 hour internship, case management support, literacy and basic skills support and job search assistance.

Hostos Community College CHW Program

HostosBrochureCover The Hostos Community College CHW Program will train community residents of South Bronx and Northern Manhattan who meet the eligibility requirements to join the healthcare workforce as Community Health Workers. The training will consist of 120 hours centered around community health worker core competencies, and contemporary health issues such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease and chronic disease self-management. An additional 30 hours will be devoted to help participants with their academic skills in reading, writing and math. Following the classroom training, participants will spend 30 hours shadowing experienced community health workers as part of their practicum. Participants will earn 9 credits toward a Community Health A.S.

Kingsborough Community College CHW Program

The Community Health Worker training program, offered at Kingsborough Community College, prepares students to work within their communities as patient advocates, health educators and liaisons between the community and existing health/social services at large. CHW students will be introduced to a variety of health related themes that will prepare them for this multi-faceted position, including the relationship between health and human behavior, managing high-risk behaviors and disease prevention.
