Bronx ASAP Student Profiles and Interviews
"During my first semester of college some colleagues and I were having difficulties in math. We as a class stood together and created study groups. The ASAP program provided us with a tutor who ensured we understood the subject thoroughly. We also met up with our advisor who gave us tips on how to study more efficiently. We all struggled together and most importantly all of us passed together. Being a part of ASAP is more than just being a college student. It teaches one how to become involved and how to work together as a team."
Johan De La Cruz, Bronx Community College ASAP January '14
"For me, it is not easy to pursue my dream of being a Registered Dietitian, but I will never give up. After I get my associate degree, I will transfer to Brooklyn College to get my bachelor degree. I know my goal is closer to me, and I just need to go on. This is thanks to ASAP. Without ASAP, I would not have enough confidence to be able to relax and pursue my dream."
Qiong Zhou, Bronx Community College ASAP'14
"ASAP has made my educational journey much more manageable. The program has made matters such as obtaining textbooks, taking summer and winter courses, and transportation to and from campus less of a problem for me. Consequently, I’ve been able to make a greater investment of time and focus into learning, which has resulted in me getting A’s in all my courses thus far."
Menelik Goodwin, Bronx Community College ASAP '13
"During these past two years I’ve realized that what ASAP provides helps me tremendously, and there is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t have been able to go through this educational journey without it. The ASAP staff is always there to remind me, guide me, help me stay on track, and, most importantly, support me. I get to share my ideas, fears, accomplishments, and ups and downs with the students from Cohort 5. Everyone has essentially become like an extended family."
Ivana Lazaroska, Bronx Community College ASAP '13
"I will never be able to repay my debt to ASAP. It offers a priceless opportunity to put your life on course and guide you on the path to accomplishing your dreams ... it sharpens my thoughts to help me become a better problem solver, teaches me the value of helping others, and reminds me to give thanks to those who have impacted my life the most."
Miguel Mendez, Bronx Community College ASAP '13
"...my advisors are exceptional. They go above and beyond to help students—and not just academically, but also with advice to help us on our way up the success ladder. ASAP has given me extraordinary opportunities and experiences."
Asana Gimballa, Bronx Community College ASAP '12
