How to Use IRBNet

How to Register in IRBNet and Upload CITI Training Certificates  

  1. Go the https://www.irbnet.org and click on “New User Registration” in the upper right hand corner.  Follow the prompts to register for a new account.

  2. After successfully registering for your IRBNet account, please login to start updating your profile with your current CITI Training certificates.  Please note you MUST upload current certificates to your “USER PROFILE.”  They should not be attached in any other area within IRBNet.

How to Create a New Study/Project and Submit in IRBNet

  1. After Logging in, follow the steps outlined in the presentation <pdf> or instructional video “New Project Submission” (use username and password below) to create and submit your NEW study/project in IRBNet.

Please NOTE the following:

  • All NEW studies/projects (studies being submitted in IRBNet for the first time), must include the “CUNY – Application for Approval to Use Human Participants in Research Part I ,” found in the “Attach Document” page of the “Designer” page.  New studies/projects must also include “Submission Form – Initial Application – Part II” found in the “Designer” page under "step I".
  • All new studies/projects must include all pertinent documents, including, but not limited to (as applicable): procedure outline, consent forms, consent/recruitment/phone scripts, recruitment material, questionnaire(s), data collection tool(s), appropriate clearance/approval from other institute(s), etc.
  • For student projects (e.g. graduate students, doctoral students, etc.), you must “share” your project with your faculty advisor in IRBNet.  Your faculty advisor must “sign off” on the study BEFORE it can be submitted to the IRB.


How to Create Subsequent "Packages” (continuing review, modification, etc.) and Submit in IRBNet.

  1. After Logging in, follow the steps outlined in the training presentation <pdf> or instructional video "Post Submission Advanced Topics" to submit a continuing review, modification, etc.  These instructions ONLY apply to studies that were initially submitted in IRBNet.

Please NOTE the following:

  • All NEW submissions (studies being submitted in IRBNet for the first time), regardless of type (continuing review, modification, etc.), must include the “CUNY – Application for Approval to Use Human Participants in Research Part I,” found in the “Attach Document” page of the “Designer” page.
  • All continuing review submissions, in addition to the continuing review request form, must include, as applicable, the most current IRB-approved documents: protocol outline, current IRB-approved consent form(s), “clean” (unstamped) consent form(s), recruitment material(s), script(s), questionnaire(s), etc.
  • For student projects (e.g. graduate students, doctoral students, etc.), you must “share” your project with your faculty advisor in IRBNet.  Your faculty advisor must “sign off” on the study BEFORE it can be submitted to the IRB.


Downloading documents from IRB Manager

  1. Log into IRB Manager with your username and password.  Be sure to put your appropriate “client” (campus affiliation).*
  2. Download all your current/active protocols and their corresponding documents (current IRB-approved consent forms, recruitment material, etc.) onto your computer, flash drive, etc.**
  3. Please refer to this checklist <pdf>   as a guide to assure all pertinent documents are downloaded.
